The Guillermo de Osma Gallery opened in Madrid in 1991 with an exhibition dedicated to Joaquín Torres-García and Rafael Barradas. Since then we have held more than one hundred exhibitions dedicated to modern and contemporary art, with a special interest in the European and Latin American historical avant-garde (1910-1970).

Guillermo de Osma Gallery opened in Madrid back in 1991 with the inauguration of an exhibition dedicated to Joaquin Torres-Garcia and Rafael Barradas. Throughout the years, the Gallery has specialized in modern and contemporary art -with a strong focus on European and Latin American Avant-Garde (1910-1970).

We have organized over 100 exhibitions, each of them accompanied by a catalogue with essays by art historians, critics, artists and writers. Additionally, we frequently collaborate with museums and foundations and we have curated a number of relevant exhibitions for them.

Since its inauguration in 1991, the Guillermo de Osma Gallery has organized more than eighty exhibitions dedicated to modern and contemporary art, with a special interest in the European and Latin American historical avant-garde (1910-1939). The Gallery publishes a catalogue with each exhibition. It collaborates and has curated exhibitions for museums and foundations and participates in major contemporary art fairs such as Art Basel Miami Beach, FIAC Paris and ARCO Madrid.

The Guillermo de Osma Gallery opens the season with the exhibition «Biomorphism. 1920-1950», where around 60 works including oil paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures will be exhibited. It is the first time that an exhibition is organized with the ambition of analyzing and showing this artistic phenomenon.

Biomorphism is characterized by the recurrent use of a type of simple and irregular plastic forms that evoke the organic or biological world: neurons, amoebas, cells, constellations… They are generally curvilinear and give the impression of movement, evolution or transformation. The forms are both familiar and intriguing, located in the border zone between figuration and abstraction.

It is a rather unknown current but very present in the art of the international avant-garde. It never existed as an artistic movement as such; it was rather a plastic current that marked a large group of artists of different kinds and origins that between 1920 and 1950 evolved from their previous positions and produced works with great aesthetic coincidences, which make us consider this production as a novel and individualized phenomenon of great interest.
